Senior Program Manager/Associate Director, UC Berkeley Center for Global Public Health (50-100%)

Position Overview

We are currently recruiting a Senior Program Manager/Associate Director (title dependent on experience) with 5+ years of experience in global public health to advance global health activities at the Center for Global Public Health (CGPH) at the UC Berkeley School of Public Health (SPH). The manager will play a pivotal role in working closely with the faculty directors and executive director to manage a range of tasks related to global health training efforts, research grant writing, event planning, and communication initiatives. This position is designed for an individual who is interested in the intersections of global public health research and education, academic administration, and grants management.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Grant writing and proposal development (50%): Monitor both solicited and unsolicited calls for research proposals and grant applications from a variety of funding sources (e.g., federal, state, foundations, corporate, HNWI). Coordinate with SPH, CGPH faculty/affiliates, and other UC networks to circulate and respond to opportunities. Draft and write proposals. Support fundraising strategies and activities to cultivate relationships with potential donors and philanthropic initiatives.
  • Global health training and education (20%): Manage established global health training and fellowship programs-–in particular the CGPH summer research fellowship program and UCB Global Public Health and Equity Certificate program. 
  • Strategic Communications and Event Coordination (30%): Collaborate with CGPH faculty to synthesize global public health research through the CGPH website and monthly newsletter. Ensure that the CGPH website is regularly updated with relevant content, including faculty profiles, event information, research highlights, and program details. Provide logistical and planning support for events  (e.g., seminars, meetings, workshops, dinners) supporting CGPH strategic areas.

Qualifications:

  • Masters degree or higher in public health, global health, or a related field required.
  • At least 5 years of experience in managing relevant programs/grants, meeting/event coordination, and student engagement – in the context of academia/university setting a plus.
  • Exceptional organizational and communication skills, with a demonstrated ability to effectively convey information both in writing and verbally.
  • Demonstrated experience with global health research/public health initiatives and collaborations including but not limited to experience with research coordination, supporting large global grants/programs, budgeting/operations, and event planning.
  • Proven experience in developing websites, managing digital communication strategies, executing social media marketing campaigns, and creating other strategic communication content.
  • Ability to lead collaborative projects with faculty, researchers, students and external partners.
  • Cultural sensitivity and ability to work diplomatically with diverse constituencies

Desired, but not required

  • Academic administration experience at UC Berkeley or another UC campus
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects and meet tight deadlines.
  • Experience living and working in an LMIC. 
  • Belief in the principles of social determinants of health, global health equity, and health and human rights.
  • Competency with MS Office, Excel, Google applications, MailChimp, Canva, Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Comfortable with social media and managing students/junior staff.
  • Experience in fundraising from foundations and high net worth individuals.

This is a 12-month limited engagement with possibility of renewal. We are looking for someone who can support at least 20 hours/wk initially. The position requires the ability to attend in-person events and lead in-person meetings on the UC Berkeley campus and in the Bay Area when needed. Competitive salary to commensurate with experience.
