Hildy Fong Baker, PhD

Executive Director of the UC Berkeley Center for Global Public Health

Hildy Fong Baker is responsible for leading the Center's global health education and research initiatives, including the SPH Global Health Specialty, fellowship programs such as the Gilead Fellowship for the Advancement of Global Health, and the UCB-UCSF Global Health Joint Online Initiative (GHJOI) project. She participates in strategic planning and development for campus and Bay Area global health initiatives including the Bay Area Global Health Innovation Challenge and the Bay Area Global Health Alliance. She is also a Lecturer for the UC Berkeley Master of Development Practice (MDP) program and serves as research director for UC Berkeley’s involvement in the USAID Health Evaluation and Applied Research Development (HEARD) project, an implementation science initiative that brings many global partners together to improve policy development and program implementation in USAID global health priority areas. Fong Baker studied health policy and management at UNC-Chapel Hill (BSPH) and the Johns Hopkins University (MHS), and received her PhD from the Chinese University of Hong Kong. Her doctoral research was on the policy implications of migration for the immunization of children in Southern China. She was a visiting scholar at Cambridge University, and has worked in various roles at the UCLA Center for Health Policy Research, WHO Child and Adolescent Health Unit in Geneva, NKF Singapore, the U.S. Senate, and Ogilvy Public Relations.
