Program Manager, Agriculture and Institutions
The Center for Effective Global Action (CEGA) seeks a full-time Program Manager to support our Agriculture and Institutions research programs.
CEGA is a hub for research on global development, with a network of over 60 academic researchers extending across the University of California, Stanford University, and the University of Washington. Our faculty affiliates measure the impacts of large-scale social and economic development programs, using randomized controlled trials and other rigorous methods. CEGA brings a scientific lens to global development, integrating empirical economic analysis with expertise in agriculture, public health, education, engineering, and the environment.
The Center’s research is organized by initiatives, which seek to develop a body of policy-relevant evidence around particular subjects. The Agricultural Technology Adoption Initiative (ATAI) aims to improve adoption of profitable agricultural technologies among smallholder farmers in Africa and South Asia. The Economic Development and Institutions (EDI) initiative seeks to enhance the effectiveness of institutions in driving equitable economic growth.
The Program Manager will assume responsibility for activities within each of these programs, including the management of grant competitions, scientific convenings, donor reporting, and research dissemination.
Responsibilities
o Manage the competitive grant-making process for both initiatives, including peer review, contracting arrangements, and project monitoring.
o Develop research partnerships and outreach to policy-makers, implementing organizations, and other stakeholders.
o Identify implementing organizations for randomized controlled trials; conduct interviews with potential research partners.
o Manage large matchmaking convening for researchers, NGOs, and government representatives aimed at generating new research partnerships
o Organize initiative-related conferences, including content development, recruitment of partners, and strategic development of agendas
o Develop expertise in subject matter (agricultural development, political economy in development, public service delivery, RCTs); stay up-to-date on relevant research and policy developments.
o Manage research dissemination efforts, including presenting on research initiatives at convenings and meetings with policymakers, and drafting policy briefs, articles, and blogs related to research findings
o Support the harmonization of research projects in the portfolio, including the collection, analysis, and reporting of data on the costs and outcomes of research studies.
o Manage relationships with donors; draft grant proposals; identify funding opportunities.
o Manage program budgets, sub-awards, and grantee reporting.
o Participate in center-wide management activities, internal work groups, performance management, process documentation, and strategic planning.

Required Qualifications
o Commitment to scientific, evidence-led international development policy
o Masters in Agricultural Economics, Public Policy, Political Science or International Affairs with a focus on economic development
o Strong technical understanding of agricultural development, economics, and impact evaluation
o Excellent written and oral communication skills.
o Strong financial management skills
o Experiencing managing grants and/or contracts
o Experience writing research proposals
o Strong problem-solving, organizational, and administrative skills; attention to detail.
o Proven ability to multitask and responsiveness to time-sensitive deadlines.
o Ability to manage work independently and to communicate effectively with colleagues.
o Sound judgment and ability to exercise discretion when working with academic and government colleagues.
o Ability and willingness to work effectively in cross-cultural environments.
o Competency with MS Office and google applications.
