Assay Development Intern (graduate)

/ / Jobs and Internships

Safe-h2o, a waterborne pathogen diagnostics startup out of QB3@953 is looking for interns to assist with assay development.

Background
Safe-h2o is an early stage non-medical diagnostic company focused on cost effective, portable systems enabling water authorities to rapidly detect pathogens like E coli Giardia and Cryptosporidium. Our lab-on-CD system has disposable microfluidic disk kits capable of testing multiple pathogens from one sample. Detecting pathogens in drinking water infrastructures now takes 20 hours; our system takes 3. Our goal is to also develop a low cost system for resource poor countries where millions die each year from contaminated water.

Position
The Intern will be a member of the team responsible for developing assays utilizing our unique centrifugal sedimentation technology. Focus will be designing and preparing assays; and testing assays on the disks. Intern will be responsible for assay analysis, calibration, statistical analysis and data management. Intern will also be responsible for managing water sample shipments from the EPA; purchasing and storage of reagents and lab ware.

Qualifications
• Proficient with immuno and molecular diagnostic assay formats with +2 years experience.
• Reliable hands-on experiences in routine molecular biology experiments.
• Demonstrates the ability to work independently including designing experiments with critical thinking and troubleshooting results.
• Must have good communication skills and multi-tasking abilities.
• Must be in the process of earning a MS or Ph.D. degree in Bio Medical Egineering, Biochemistry, or Biology/Microbiology.
