The Tsinghua-Berkeley Fund is pleased to announce its first Call for Proposals, for grants of up to $25,000 to seed original, collaborative research between Berkeley and Tsinghua University in Beijing, China. Proposals are accepted in all fields. Fund requests may include a living stipend to supplement a sabbatical spent at Tsinghua.
The Tsinghua-Berkeley Fund was established in 2013. The Fund at Berkeley is administered by the Tsinghua-Berkeley Center at the Institute of East Asian Studies (IEAS). The Fund considers only those proposals that are jointly submitted by a tenured or tenure-track professor at UC Berkeley and a professor or researcher from Tsinghua University who will act as PIs.
The Fund especially seeks to support projects involving junior scholars; as such, proposals may be preliminary research explorations with the potential to develop into substantive projects. Proposals that promote a high degree of interaction with the Tsinghua campus and/or those that allow Berkeley faculty to develop their research in China will receive the highest priority.
Application deadline: Monday, March 3, 2014. Berkeley PIs should indicate intent to apply by January 31, 2014.
Late or incomplete applications cannot be considered for funding.
