Jamie Eliades, MD, MPH, is Assistant Professor of Emergency Medicine at Mt. Sinai St Luke’s Roosevelt Hospital Center in New York, assistant Clinical Professor of Population and Family Health at Columbia University’s Mailman School of Public Health, and Technical Director for the MalariaCare project at PATH . Dr. Eliades completed an International Emergency Medicine Fellowship at Johns Hopkins in 2001 while obtaining an MPH and subsequently worked with JHSPH’s Center for International Emergency, Disaster and Refugee Studies (CIEDRS) in conflict/post-conflict settings in Rwanda, Sierra Leone, Kosovo, the Palestinian Territories, and refugee camps in northern Kenya. He then completed the 2-year Epidemic Intelligence Service Fellowship (EIS) at the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in field epidemiology in the Division of Parasitic Diseases/Malaria Branch, and continued to work with CDC after the fellowship on the US President’s Malaria Initiative (PMI). He has worked in over 25 countries in emergency humanitarian response, health systems development, research, and infectious disease prevention and control for various non-governmental organizations, UN agencies, and academic institutions. He currently teaches courses in child survival and malaria at Mailman while leading MalariaCare’s technical approach, a $50-million project funded by PMI to improve diagnosis and treatment of malaria and other febrile illnesses in sub-Saharan Africa and South-East Asia. Dr. Eliades sits on several technical advisory groups for the World Health Organization, UNICEF, and Save the Children, including WHO’s Technical Expert Group on Artemisinin Resistance, and the Community Case Management in Emergencies working group.
